It is evident that the question “Is Mathematics invented or discovered?” is riddled with complexities, much like Mathematics itself. Whilst one may argue that it has been entirely invented since humans have ascribed attributes to numbers, I argue that humans are only capable of this because the qualities were already present, patiently waiting to be discovered. Each newly discovered element of Mathematics gives rise to a plethora of possible ways to transform and benefit the tangible world, making it an indubitable fundamental aspect of our universe, prevalent in every aspect of our lives, and later appearing even when humanity has not yet recognized its existence or merit.
Hardy believed that his own studies and exploration of Number Theory were useless for the real world, yet that did not stop its applications in Cryptography and most certainly did not impede him from acknowledging the purpose of humanity uncovering Mathematics as his own words shown below prove.
